INSTRUCTION
MIB
TASK 3
For this task we are required to be in a group of 3 members and work
together on a project to design a packaging of a product that is created
by the students from the School of Biosciences (SBS). The SBS students have provided their own product and name. It was easy
for us to start of our project with them. The first step was to
understand the product. They went for something sweet and cold that is
Gelato.
Gelato Proposal slides by SBS Students
Me and my teammates started to look up more reference and informations
on Gelato ice cream such as textures, colours, flavours and many
more.
Here is the starting of our project:

After looking through reference and examples to get some ideas we
started on creating the Brand Logo. The logo that the SBS student had
prepared was called "Oolo Bear".They wanted to have a bear mascot
silouhette with a pear cut out element.
LOGO

From the logo image that they have sent us. They told us to
either proceed with this logo or create a new version.
Me and my teammate decided to refine the Typeface and change the
composition of the bear element. We all sketched out and ideate
each logo designs together.

TYPEFACE EXPLORATION
After a few feedbacks and exploration. I decided to choose a
few typeface that would be suitable for the logo and
aesthetics.

I decided to give a try on these Fonts
- Bavista Soulare
- Lucky Coin

Upon this two Typefaces me and my teammates finally chose the
first top right typeface,
design and composition.Next we
proceed on picking the suitable colours for this Pear oolong tea
flavoured gelato.
Fig 8.2: Logo ideation
Finally we ended up agreeing on the all brown shade for the
logo. After we gave decided on the logo design. We proceed to
create a colour palette for the overal design of the
gelato.
COLOUR PALETTE
There were a few choices of colours that we couldn't decide
on so we mixed and match to see which one suits best.

The final colour palette for the Pear gelato is the

Through some consultations and feedbacks from Ms Vitiya. We
decided to create an additional flavours to the gelato such as
Lychee and Blueberry that will go well with the base of oolong
tea.Ms was also encouraging and asked us to proceed with the
idea.
From there we explored and came up with final colour palette
for each 3 flavours.

EXPERIENCE:
Working in a group of three for this project was a learning experience that underscored the importance of collaboration and adaptability. Each member brought their unique strengths and perspectives, which sometimes led to creative differences. However, through open communication and regular feedback sessions, we managed to align our ideas and create a unified design.
The conceptualization phase was both challenging and exciting as we worked to translate abstract ideas into tangible designs. Crafting the Oolo Bear mascot and developing packaging for flavors like Pear Oolong Tea, Lychee, and Blueberry allowed me to refine my design and branding skills. Seeing the final mockups, complete with dielines and promotional items, was a rewarding culmination of our efforts.
Another aspect of the experience was understanding how branding extends beyond visuals. Designing merchandise and strategizing promotional tactics gave me a holistic view of how packaging and merchandising contribute to consumer engagement. This comprehensive approach will undoubtedly influence how I approach future projects.
OBSERVATION:
During this project, I observed how interdisciplinary collaboration can bring fresh perspectives and deepen the creative process. Working alongside bioscience students allowed us to gain valuable insights into the flavor development and nutritional aspects of the gelato, ensuring that our packaging design effectively communicated these qualities.
I noticed that our target audience, Gen Z and Millennials, resonated with designs emphasizing eco-consciousness, health, and simplicity. The decision to incorporate earthy tones, organic patterns, and a playful bear mascot proved effective in aligning with these preferences. Furthermore, the integration of sustainability icons and clear nutritional information enhanced the design’s credibility and appeal.
Another key observation was the role of merchandising in creating a cohesive brand identity. Items like tote bags, napkins, and branded apparel acted as extensions of the packaging, reinforcing the Oolobear personality at every consumer touchpoint. The balance between playfulness and sophistication in our design elements was crucial in maintaining a premium yet approachable brand image.
