Task 3

Proposal

For this Task that was given by our lecturer Mr. Vinod, I have proposed to explore and implement a new type expression and application approach towards a luxury brand called VALENTINO but it didn't got excepted. Then i decided to explore and chose to recreate a new typeface for the Artist and singer Lana Del Rey on her album covers or merchandises.

The goal of this Task is to redesign and implement a new type expression that would be more suitable or clearer.

So i have done a proposal slide on my idea exploration.

After getting feedback and approval upon my proposal i started to search for an old vintage country font style in the internet as a reference for my new typeface.

Idea Formation/ References

I have found a few references of my desired choice of typeface and i decided to only choose a few and combine it together.

Developing the Font

There were some struggles here and there while creating the fonts. I had to redo my font after i got a feedback from Mr. Vinod. I was advice to make it more aligned and make sure my lines were the same thickness.

Importing font to Fontlab 7

I tried to create a sentences using the new font and see if it was aligned and if it looks good. So far i was satisfied with the outcome.

I was having a little struggle with the kerning in the font lab, but thankfully i managed to get it done and proceed with the font application.

Font Presentation

My reference was from Pinterest and i explore various font designs that were somewhat has to do with Lana Del Rey old vintage country aesthetic designs. I have found a few reference such as posters and fan merchandises.

About the Artist Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, known professionally as Lana Del Rey, is an American singer-songwriter. Her music is noted for its cinematic quality and exploration of tragic romance, glamour, and melancholia, with frequent references to contemporary pop culture and 1950s–70s Americana.

So i decided to recreate my own design my using my font and present it.

I chose the colour scheme of maroon, light blue and cream to present more of cinematic quality and exploration of tragic romanceglamour, and melancholia, with frequent references to contemporary pop culture aesthetic core.

Font Application

For the application i had no other ideas but an album cover but then i gotten some ideas after a few exploration and came up with a few applications.

Feedback

Week 13:
General feedback: When displaying don’t put the capital letters and the small
letters side by side. Showcase all capitals and then small.
Specific feedback: Explore more on application idea. don't stuck on to one idea.
Week 12:
Specific feedback: Adjust the kerning according to the table given in teams. make it Organise and apply.
Week 11:
Specific feedback: Make the lines thinner and same length. Do not add uneccessary elements that would make it more messy.
Week 10:
Specific feedback: Keep up with the progress and start with the application task.explore more on the idea.

Week 9:
Specific feedback: Change the font. make it look similar with other alphabets.make it look less messy.

Week 8:
Specific feedback: Explore more on something that i like or find a reference that suits the requirements of the task.

Reflection

In the process of creating a typeface, i selected and modified design elements to align with my personal preferences.Adjusting characteristics like letterforms, serifs and overall style allowed me to create my own customised font.Throughout this task, i gained valuable insights into the intricate world of type design. By understanding the type expression and application enhanced my appreciation for the role of fonts in visual communication.Additionally, with the challenges of redesigning and implementing a font provided practical skills in graphic design and typography.
