LECTURES
Typographic systems
Typography systems are collections of individual styles used across an application. All design is based on a structural system and according to Elam.
2007.It is functional in the communication of a message, object elements enhance
the functions of emphasis, organization, and balance. There are eight major variations of permutations. These eight major
variations are as follows.
The 8 typographic system;
1. Axial
2. Radial
3. Dilational
4. Random
5. Grid
6.
Modular
7. Transitional
8. Bilateral
Week 1: Typographical Systems
Fig 1.2: Typographical system chart
Axial
All elements are organized to the left or right of a single axis.
Fig 1.3: Typographical system - Axial
Radial
All elements are extended from a point of focus.
Fig 1.4: Typographical system - Radial
Dilational
All elements expand from the central point in a circular manner.
Fig 1.5: Typographical system - Dilational
Random
Elements appear to have no specific pattern or relationship.

Grid
A system of Vertical and Horizontal divisions.

Transitional
An Informal system of layered banding

Modular
A series of non-objective elements that are constructed in as a
standardized unit. The thing with modular system is that you can
move it around as long as it fits within the unit.

Bilateral
All text is arranged symmetrically on a single axis.

TASK 1: Exercise 1 - Typographic Systems
In this exercise, we are tasked to create a layout for each
typographic system using the content given. The 8 typographic systems are:
Axial, Radial, Dilatational, Random, Grid, Modular and
Transitional.
Task requirements:
- Adobe InDesign only
- Size: 200 x 200 mm
- Colours: Black and one additional colour
- Limited graphical elements (lines, dots, etc.)
Topic Research
Mr. Vinod advised us to do research on the three headlines provided and
cater our design towards our chosen topic. Click on the topic to read more
about it.
When starting off the process,I started with a sketch of how my layouts
of each typography going to be.

Type & Play
Week 2: Type & Play
- Finding an image; preferably textured/patterns
- Deconstructing an image
- Identifying letterforms
- Extracting letterforms
- Identify a reference
- Refining letterforms
Finding an image:
I have chosen an organic form of shapes that i can find from the
water ripple image i found in Pinterest.
Deconstructing an image:

HONOR Talents
The annual HONOR Talents was made compulsory for us to join. There are three
themes we have to choose from:
- Renewal of Life
- Cultural Prosperity
- Genesis - The Future
We are assigned to do an artwork based on their requirements. So i decided to illustrate the theme "renewal of life".
Artwork description:
This artwork beautifully symbolises "Serendipitous Encounter" is an evocative artwork that captures the essence of serendipity, the delightful discovery of something unexpected. The piece features a vibrant cityscape at twilight, with a blend of warm and cool colours illuminating the scene.

FEEDBACK
week 2
General Feedback: Some of the words need additional adjustment. It's important to
extract the detail of the original image.Use the original shape for
the letter.
Specific Feedback:Make your wordmark more define and finalise your chosen
wordmark.
Week3
General Feedback:The letterform has to represent the actual
object you extracted from and ensure their characteristics are
visible.
Specific Feedback:Refine more on my letterform to make it more
readable.
Week 4
General Feedback: Use only one color and ensure elements aren’t
too big or distractive that will disrupt the entire layout and
message.
Specific Feedback: Follow accordingly to the system to get the
correct layout.
