Week 2
From week 2-week 3:
- Gestalt theory
- Contrast
- Emphasis
- Balance
- Repetition
- Movement
- Harmony and Unity
- Symbol
- Word and Image
Adhering to the brief, I have selected 2 design principles and will create 1 design for each design principles. The design principles that I have chosen are Movement and Balance. Below are the individual posts for each design.
Week 3
On week 3, we showed our progress and ideas for Exercise 1 in the principles of emphasis from Sir Charles Sharma Naidu Achu Naidu and we seek for his comments and critics to see whether our sketch and ideas could be improved. We were advised to self-watch pre-recorded lecture videos to be able to go through our exercises.
From what i have learned, the design principles of movement and balance are important elements in creating visually appealing compositions in art and design.
Both movement and balance are key elements in graphic design, interior design, and architectural design, and other design fields. Understanding and applying these principles can help create effective and visually appealing designs.

Visual Research
Movement
Involving the intentional use of animation, transitions and other types of movement to enhance the user experience in digital interfaces. It can be used to guide the user's attention, provide feedback and create a sense of visual hierarchy and continuity.

Balance
The arrangement of elements in a composition such as that they appear stable and evenly distributed. In visual design, balance can be achieved through the use of symmetry, asymmetry and radial balance.

Design Process & Idea Exploration
After learning and understanding all of the principles for this exercise, I chose to proceed with my designs with the following principles which are Movement and Balance.
I have decided to create both of my designs by drawing it digitally. First of all, I started with my design for Movement which is Typography movement and i was inspired by the liquid or melting looking design.
Movement in Typography:

I decided to use

Figure 5.6: Final idea of composition and design choiceAfter i had finished illustrating the composition and design, I then decided to go with Figure 5.3 as a reference. Then I started to complete the final idea that I have chosen and start finalizing the design.
I filled in the color for the melting effect that is oozing down from the letters "MELT". The color orange that I have chosen was inspired from a melted lava. Then I added definition, contrast and a glitch effect to make it more interesting for the final outcome.
Balance in Illustration:
For the next design principle that I chose is Balance. I was inspired mostly from their illustrations of sceneries that was really interesting to me. The illustration had caught my eye from the style and colors.
I start to sketch out my idea for illustration drawing with a line drawing and Com-positioning my drawing to make it looked like the design principles that I had chosen for balance. Both of the illustration arts are basically dreamy and ethereal, the composition for both of them has a symmetric balance. I then proceed to create my design with my own style.
Figure 6.7: Finalizing the design with details
My final design outcome is where i added neon highlights to make it more ethereal and dreamier. The big figure in the center is what makes the design balanced. I used Pro create app for this design and from there i can free draw and design my illustration drawing with all the elements needed to bring out the principle of balance in my design.

Reflection
Reflecting on my understanding of design principles it has helped me to evaluate my own work and identify areas for improvements that I have lacked. It has also helped me in better understanding of the design choices of others and to communicate more effectively with other designers. I have learned that the design principles of Movement and balance are fundamental elements in creating visually appealing compositions.
Therefore, Movement can be achieved through the use of lines, shapes, and forms that guide the viewer's eye through the piece, while balance can be achieved through the use of symmetry and asymmetry, as well as the use of positive and negative space.
Throughout my design process, I find that it's easy to understand the principles but then it's quite challenging when bringing them into our design. I was anxious of my work to be ruined or not meet my expectations. In conclusion, when applying the principles, individuals have to be careful of the elements that we are using. It can help you to become more self-aware and intentional in your design practice and can ultimately lead to more effective and successful design work.
